This poem, written by classmate Eric Fielding, was read at the 40th reunion dinner. Enjoy!

the pages of my life have turned
at such a rapid pace
I remember very few friends well
here and there a name or face
the riches of a lifetime
accumulate in one account
the past seems closer in some ways
as the years that have passed mount
I have written many chapters
in my own history book
on the eve of our reunion
should I take a second look
at the words you said to me back then
when we were oh so young
or just be happy where I am
and with the changes time has brung
you always were a friend of mine
even when I was no friend
and forty years later now I
will get to see you once again
I wonder will you look at me
now older with gray hair
and still see the friend you used to like
or will you see a stranger there
and when I look into your eyes
will I only gaze the past
or do we have a chance to form
a strong bond that will last
was Thomas Wolfe correct when he
wrote you cannot go home again
on the eve of our reunion
will you still be my friend
the miracles of modern time
have reconnected us
and in our pithy shorthand here
many topics we discuss
yet that is very different
than sharing the same room
have forty years taken their toll
I guess we will find out soon
I could not wait to leave ohio
on graduation day
now sometimes I wonder
if I had chose to stay
maybe I took for granted
when we were very close
should I head to Centerville
or am I just chasing a ghost
I will get in my car I know
or hop upon a plane
and yes I know when I see you
nothing will be the same
but I do so want to see you
for I remember when
nothing was as important
as you were to me, my friend
