Celebrating the after-glow of the 50th Reunion

As the dust settles from the weekend reunion festivities, the Reunion Planning Team recognizes that news about the event may not have reached all classmates. It was inevitable. All publicity was via electronic means (email and Facebook/Website posts) or word of mouth. If we did not have updated contact information, specifically email addresses, people fell through the cracks. We really don’t want that to happen in the future. Rumblings have already been heard of another get-together for a 55th!

Please submit your updated contact info from the tab above. Additionally, if you know of classmates who have passed away and aren’t on our Memorial page on the website, let me know. We recently learned of Steven Fletcher’s passing and his name was added to our Memorial board the night of the reunion. 😢

The Clock is Ticking!

As the 50th Reunion nears, here are some important scheduling notes.

For those who have responded that they are going to the Centerville High School football game on Friday night, September 6, 2024, there will be a pop-up tent outside the stadium with a “Class of 1974” sign. Please check in there for your ticket to the game around 6 pm.

The Social Mixer will be at Mack’s Tavern (381 Miamisburg Centerville Rd., Dayton, OH 45459) beginning around 7 pm following up with folk coming from the football game. Mack’s Tavern is in a strip mall west of Normandy Lane, near Big Lots.

The 50th Reunion dinner will be held 6-11 pm, Saturday evening, September 7 at the Hilton Garden Inn Dayton South – Austin Landing (12000 Innovation Drive, Miamisburg, OH 45342). Dinner will begin serving at 6:45pm. There will be a cash bar. Dress code is casual.

We can’t wait to see everyone!

BREAKING NEWS!

The 50th Reunion Reservation deadline has been extended to August 24. All RSVPs must be received and paid by that date as we have deadlines to meet at the hotel. Speaking of the hotel, the block of rooms held under our event name will be released August 21.

We look forward to seeing all who are coming! If you haven’t updated your contact info this year, please visit the “Submit Your Contact Info” tab above.

SAVE THE DATE! Saturday, September 7, 2024

It is official! The Centerville High School Class of ’74’s 50th Reunion will be held Saturday evening, September 7, 2024. More activities will be planned for the weekend and announced later – but the committee wanted to get this date out there and on the calendar.

The evening’s gathering will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn Dayton South/Austin Landing. (12000 Innovation Dr., Miamisburg OH 45342) A block of sleeping rooms has been set aside – the link to the hotel info can be found in one of the tabs above.

If you haven’t done so already, please submit your updated contact information at the “Submit Your Contact Info” tab (found above) under the header of this website’s home page.

If you are on Facebook, please join the Centerville High School (Ohio) Class of 74 Facebook group to be kept in the loop and be sure to let other classmates know.

2024: Time to start planning the 50th Reunion!

Ready or not, it’s time to start working on our 50th Reunion! The first gathering to develop any plans was held February 7, 2024 at the Centerville Marion’s Piazza. Those in attendance included: Mike Battaglia, Tim Cancilla, Steve Cole, Joanne Jannetta, Lynn (Hofferberth) Dille, Sharon Carpenter, Vicki (Turton) Carter, Mark DiSalvo and Vicki (Yoder) Ferguson.

We’ll do some more research and meet back up at Marian’s (241 N. Main St., Centerville, OH 45459) at 11 am, Wednesday, February 28 to compare research re venues, dates, etc. New people are most welcome to join the planning committee.

If you haven’t done so already, please join the group’s Facebook page and submit your updated contact information at the “Submit Your Contact Info” tab under the header of this website’s home page.

Americana Festival 2017

Amazing as it sounds, folding chairs were already starting to line the annual Americana Festival parade route as early as Sunday, June 25!

The Americana Festival always makes me nostalgic for the old days of the Ox Roast that used to be held behind the South High School Building (now Cline Elementary). But that was then and this is now.

This year, the 44th Americana Festival’s day-long events include a 5K run, a parade with 120 units (starts at 10 am just west of the high school on East Franklin Street and continues west ending at Cline School on Virginia), a street fair that features around 300 booths, an Auto Show (at Benham’s Grove), Children’s Activities and so much more. The day concludes with a fireworks display at the Centerville High School Stadium.

Stadium gates open at 6 p.m. and the live entertainment begins at 8 p.m. The Miami Valley Hospital Fireworks show lights up the sky at 10 p.m. and is synchronized to music provided by Soft Rock 92.9. In celebration of the Americana Festival theme, ā€œThe Best is Yet to Comeā€ the pre-fireworks show will featureĀ a musicalĀ performance by Brass Tacks Band.

Reunion Withdrawals

There have been a smattering of reports surfacing that some Class of 1974 classmates are going into a withdrawal, of sorts. Ā Those of us onĀ the Committee thought it was just us! Obviously, the October 10-11 Reunion weekend seemed to have kindled an interest in connecting with acquaintances. That’s really not so hard to understand – 40 years was a long time….

Some of the local classmates are going to gather at The Pour Haus (536 Miamisburg Centerville Rd., Centerville, OH 45459,Ā (937) 439-3688) on Saturday, December 20. Happy Hours starts around 5 pm. It is amazing how many local classmates we have! Who knows, maybe this can turn this into a monthly or semi-monthly event. Yes, the holidays are a busy time but maybe you’ll want to stop for a drink and visit for a while.
