Americana Festival 2017

Amazing as it sounds, folding chairs were already starting to line the annual Americana Festival parade route as early as Sunday, June 25!

The Americana Festival always makes me nostalgic for the old days of the Ox Roast that used to be held behind the South High School Building (now Cline Elementary). But that was then and this is now.

This year, the 44th Americana Festival’s day-long events include a 5K run, a parade with 120 units (starts at 10 am just west of the high school on East Franklin Street and continues west ending at Cline School on Virginia), a street fair that features around 300 booths, an Auto Show (at Benham’s Grove), Children’s Activities and so much more. The day concludes with a fireworks display at the Centerville High School Stadium.

Stadium gates open at 6 p.m. and the live entertainment begins at 8 p.m. The Miami Valley Hospital Fireworks show lights up the sky at 10 p.m. and is synchronized to music provided by Soft Rock 92.9. In celebration of the Americana Festival theme, “The Best is Yet to Come” the pre-fireworks show will feature a musical performance by Brass Tacks Band.

A blast from the past: Magsig. In 1924, the school board consolidated the high school and the nine 1-room schoolhouses and moved all twelve grades into this new building which they called the ‘Washington Township School.’ Eventually, this school building was renamed after C. W. Magsig, a lawyer, prominent citizen and school board member from 1940-1956. (Source: Centerville-Washington Township Historical Society)

If you haven’t done so already, please fill out the “Submit Your Contact Info” form found on the tab under the header. Even if you don’t plan on attending the 40th Reunion – we still would like to hear from you.

We only have contact information on about 13% of our classmates and will not be snail-mailing out any event information – especially since our previous data base is 15 years old. We need your help!

Additionally, if you know of a classmate who has passed away and isn’t listed on the “In Memory” page, please leave a comment below.
